Tim Robbins Joins Jon Hamm in 'Marjorie Prime' (Exclusive)

Tim Robbins is joining the Marjorie Prime, the sci-fi dramedy that will star Jon Hamm.

Michael Almereyda's film, an adaptation of last year's Pulitzer prize-nominated play by Jordan Harrison, follows an aging violinist named Marjorie, who, at age 85, finds that her memory is failing her. She hires a service that provides holographic recreations of deceased loved ones as their survivors would like them remembered, so she can spend time with her daughter Tess and son-in-law Jon, and with an imperfect copy of her deceased husband, Walter, as he looked in his 30s and 40s.

Geena Davis Joins Jon Hamm In ‘Marjorie Prime’ Movie

EXCLUSIVE: Geena Davis has joined the cast of Marjorie Prime, the sci-fi dramedy being directed by Michael Almereyda based on the 2014 Pulitzer Prize-nominated play by Jordan Harrison. This is the pic that newly crowned Emmy winner Jon Hamm recently boarded along with Lois Smith, who will star as Marjorie as she did onstage in LA and soon in New York.

Marjorie is an aging violinist and a clever, wry woman who, at age 85, finds that her memory is failing her. Availing herself of a service that provides holographic recreations of deceased loved ones as their survivors would like them remembered, she spends her time with her anxious, quick-witted daughter Tess (Davis) and easygoing son-in-law Jon, and with an imperfect copy of her deceased husband, Walter (Hamm), as he looked in his 30s and 40s.

Principal photography begins next month in the Hamptons and the movie marks the second collaboration between BB Film Productions’ Uri Singer and Almereyda, after this year’s Experimenter starring Peter Sarsgaard and Winona Ryder. That pic, about the work of social psychologist Stanley Milgram, world premiered at Sundance and just played the New York Film Festival ahead of its platform release starting October 16 via Magnolia Pictures.

Smith starred in the original production of Marjorie Prime at LA’s Mark Taper Forum. After the film wraps, she will be seen in the New York stage adaptation starting November 20 at Playwrights Horizons.

The Oscar-winning Davis is repped by CAA.
